English for children (9-13 years)
Children are like "sponges", they “soak up” languages
with very little effort. They have the innate ability to acquire a new language
in a natural and spontaneous way. Unlike adults, children rarely reflect
on the grammatical structure of sentences, but learn the language mainly
through its direct use.
Our English language courses for children deal with familiar
and relevant topics in the child’s life (family, home, friends, school,
games, food, colours, numbers, etc..). We use supporting material that
is colourful and fun with the objective of maintaining the child’s level
of attention high.
A recent university research suggests that children learn languages
on-line as equally well as the more traditional classroom lessons.
The lessons are individual, and any group lessons
(maximum 4 children) can be evaluated on request in the case of children
aged minimum 12 years upwards.
Courses and lessons are organised to stimulate curiosity
and interaction with the child. The strong emphasis placed on conversation
and interesting, up-to-date digital support material (texts, explanations,
exercises, etc.) make the lessons enjoyable and most importantly effective.
Our lessons and courses are provided by qualified
English mother tongue teachers. Our method of teaching is the communicative
approach.
The lessons for the younger children, from 9 to 11 years
have a duration of 30 minutes each. For older children, 12 to 13 years,
the lessons have a duration of 1 hour. In general, it is advisable that
children have frequent, short lessons during the week with not more than
2/3 days interval between lessons.
During the lessons, it is very important the presence
of a parent/guardian, in particular for children under the age of 11 years.
The function of the adult’s role is to supervise the child.
Lessons are available from 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Friday and from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday (GMT-Dublin time). Please
check your corresponding local time at

►.
Before starting the lessons, it is recommended that the
parent/guardian helps the child become familiar with
Skype™ (an alternative to the telephone), by using it to call family,
relatives, friends etc.. This would prevent any potential intimidation the
child may experience using this new medium during the lessons.

with reference to the
